Television producer Ekta Kapoor is preparing to bring back one of her most iconic soap operas, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, as a new series, Indian media reported on Saturday.

Originally aired on 3 July 2000, the popular daily drama concluded on 6 November 2008 after an eight-year run. The show starred Smriti Irani as Tulsi and Amar Upadhyay as Mihir, and became a household staple not just in India but also across the border in Pakistan.

According to media reports, the reboot will feature members of the original cast, including Smriti Irani, who has since transitioned into politics and served as India’s Minister for Women and Child Development.

“Smriti Irani is reportedly undergoing intensive preparation to reprise her role,” sources said, signalling strong commitment from the original team.

The show’s iconic theme song is also being recreated, and the series is expected to be filmed at the same original location. While further details are yet to be officially confirmed, the announcement of its broadcast is likely to take place in June 2025.

The revival is seen as a strategic move to tap into nostalgia and re-engage viewers who grew up with the show’s characters and storylines.
