Boxing divisional rankings: Liam Paro wins, enters welterweight rankings

    Published on

Last week didn’t provide much boxing action, but there was some movement in the divisional rankings following Liam Paro’s unanimous decision win over David Papot in his welterweight debut. The fight was an IBF title eliminator.

Paro’s debut didn’t come without drama as he had to overcome significant damage to his left eye and was rocked on several occasions. However, Paro started and finished strong to earn the decision and the No. 7 ranking. With Paro’s move to up welterweight, Lindolfo Delgado joins the junior welterweight rankings at No. 10.

In strawweight action, Oscar Collazo retained his WBO and WBA titles with a stoppage of Jayson Vayson. It was a competitive fight that Vayson appeared to be in until his corner inexplicably stopped the fight in Round 7.

ESPN’s divisional boxing rankings highlight the best in the sport in every weight class. Rankings will change based on recent results and performances. Fighters who have announced they are moving to a different weight class will be ranked in that new division, if warranted, only once they fight in that weight class. Fighters who currently own titles in two divisions can be ranked in both.

Fighters who haven’t competed in the past 12 months — and don’t have a fight scheduled — will be dropped from the rankings until they fight again. Any fighter who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to reenter the rankings after his next bout.
